Portsmouth Mine Pit Lake
Portsmouth Mine Pit Lake, sometimes called the Portsmouth Pit, is the deepest lake completely within the state of Minnesota. It has a depth of over 450 feet (137 m), according to the most recent Minnesota DNR data. Lake Superior, over 700 feet deep off the north shore of the state, is technically deeper. The 120-acre artificial lake is a former iron mining pit in the Cuyuna Range that has since filled with water.

Malkerson Island is a private island on Bay Lake, a lake that is located in Bay Lake Township, Crow Wing County, Minnesota. The island is 52 acres and has more than three miles (5 km) of shoreline. The island is owned by the Malkerson family and has been used as a summertime weekend retreat for five generations. The island has several cabins, three tennis courts and many acres of undeveloped land. Ruttgers Bay Lake Lodge faces the northern shoreline of the island.
