KFGI-FM 101.5 has a "Variety Hits" format, known locally as "Sam FM". The station serves the Brainerd and Baxter region of central Minnesota. Its studios are at 212 N 5th Street, in Brainerd. The transmitter site is on County Road 6, between Crosby and Emily. Its original "KQ101.5" Classic rock format had originated at co-owned KQDS-FM in Duluth. The "SAM FM" format became effective September 1, 2011.

Just off of County Road 34, it is perhaps best identified by its location between Coles Lake and Flynn Lake. First appearing in the 1920 census, the village was abandoned by 1960.

The city lies immediately south of its namesake, the Cuyuna Range, a line of iron-bearing hills in central Minnesota. Portsmouth Mine Pit Lake
Portsmouth Mine Pit Lake, sometimes called the Portsmouth Pit, is the deepest lake completely within the state of Minnesota. It has a depth of over 450 feet (137 m), according to the most recent Minnesota DNR data. Lake Superior, over 700 feet deep off the north shore of the state, is technically deeper. The 120-acre artificial lake is a former iron mining pit in the Cuyuna Range that has since filled with water.
