Mille Lacs Lake
Mille Lacs Lake (also called Lake Mille Lacs or Mille Lacs) is a lake in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It is located in the counties of Mille Lacs, Aitkin and Crow Wing, roughly 100 miles north of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The name of Mille Lacs is French for "one thousand lakes"; the 's' in 'Lacs' is pronounced when referring to the lake in English. In the Ojibwe language the lake is called Misi-zaaga'igan ("grand lake").

The maximum depth of the lake is 74 feet with a water clarity of 24 feet . The Ojibway called the lake Ses-sa-beg-a-mah, which has been translated as "lake of many bays" or "lake of many arms.
