The island is owned by the Malkerson family and has been used as a summertime weekend retreat for five generations. The island has several cabins, three tennis courts and many acres of undeveloped land. Ruttgers Bay Lake Lodge faces the northern shoreline of the island.

Mille Lacs Lake
Mille Lacs Lake (also called Lake Mille Lacs or Mille Lacs) is a lake in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It is located in the counties of Mille Lacs, Aitkin and Crow Wing, roughly 100 miles north of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The name of Mille Lacs is French for "one thousand lakes"; the 's' in 'Lacs' is pronounced when referring to the lake in English. In the Ojibwe language the lake is called Misi-zaaga'igan ("grand lake").
