Lafayette County, Mississippi

Lafayette County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of 2010, the population was 47,351. Its county seat is Oxford. The local pronunciation of the name is "la-FAY-et". Lafayette County is often regarded as the inspiration for Yoknapatawpha County, the fictional setting of many of William Faulkner's stories. The county is named to honor Marquis de Lafayette, a French military hero and American general who fought during the American Revolutionary War.

Rowan Oak

Rowan Oak, also known as William Faulkner House, is William Faulkner's former home in Oxford, Mississippi. It is a primitive Greek Revival house built in the 1840s by Robert Sheegog. Faulkner purchased the house when it was in disrepair in the 1930s and did many of the renovations himself. Other renovations were done in the 1950s. The house sits on 4 landscaped and twenty nine acres of largely wooded property known as Bailey's Woods.

Oxford is a city in, and the county seat of, Lafayette County, Mississippi, United States. Founded in 1837, it was named after the British university city of Oxford in hopes of having the state university located there, which it did successfully attract. As of the 2010 US Census, the population is 18,916. Oxford is the home of the University of Mississippi, founded in 1848, also commonly known as "Ole Miss. " Oxford has been named by USA Today as one of the top six college towns in the nation.

Swayze Field

Oxford-University Stadium at Swayze Field is the home of the University of Mississippi Rebels college baseball team and is located in Oxford, Mississippi. It is named in honor of Tom Swayze, a former Ole Miss baseball player and coach. Tom Swayze was a 3 year letterman and over 21 years of coaching he achieved a record of 361–201–2. He also was at the helm of the team for four SEC Championships and three College World Series appearances.
