Tate County is a county located in the northwestern portion of the U.S. state of Mississippi, east of the Mississippi Delta. As of 2010, the population was 28,886. Its county seat is Senatobia. Actor James Earl Jones was born in Arkabutla, Tate County. The county is named for one of the first prominent settlers of the area, Thomas Simpson Tate. Tate County is part of the Memphis, TN–MS–AR Metropolitan Statistical Area.
