First Battle of Pyramid Lake

The First Battle of Pyramid Lake in 1860 was one of the opening conflicts of the Paiute War in Nevada between the American people and the Paiute people, who had resisted the increasing numbers of migrants who traveled the California Trail through their territory, taking scarce game and water resources, as well as altercations with the Pony Express.

Nixon is a census-designated place (CDP) in Washoe County, Nevada, USA. The population was 374 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pyramid Lake Fault Zone

The Pyramid Lake Fault Zone is an active right lateral-moving (dextral) geologic fault located in western Nevada. It is considered an integral part of the Walker Lane. The fault zone extends to the southeast from Pyramid Lake roughly parallel to the course of the Truckee River between the Truckee Range to the northeast and the Pah Rah Range to the southwest. The Pyramid Lake Fault is the easternmost of a series of en echelon faults of the Walker Lane straddling the Nevada – California border.

Anaho Island

Anaho Island is an island in Pyramid Lake, Nevada, USA, on the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation. It is located in the southeastern part of the lake, approximately four miles east of the community of Sutcliffe. The island is home to the Anaho Island National Wildlife Refuge, which protects a colony of American White Pelicans, one of the two largest pelican colonies in the western United States. It is uninhabited by humans.

Pyramid Island (Nevada)

Pyramid Island is a very small island near the southeastern shore of Pyramid Lake, Nevada. It is located approximately 1.2 miles northeast of Anaho Island and slightly less than six miles from the community of Sutcliffe. The white band seen to the east of the island is composed of calcium carbonate which came from when the lake was at or near its overflow point.
