Prometheus (tree)
Prometheus (aka WPN-114) was the oldest known non-clonal organism, a Great Basin Bristlecone Pine (Pinus longaeva) tree growing near the tree line on Wheeler Peak in eastern Nevada, United States. The tree, which was at least 4862 years old and possibly more than 5000 years, was cut down in 1964 by a graduate student and United States Forest Service personnel for research purposes. The people involved did not know of its world-record age before the cutting (see below).

Wheeler Peak (Nevada)
Wheeler Peak, elevation 13,065 feet, a mountain in the Snake Range of the Great Basin, in the Western United States. It is named for George Wheeler, leader of the Wheeler Survey of the late 19th century. It is located in Great Basin National Park, in eastern of central-eastern Nevada. It is the highest point in the National Park, and second highest point in the state. The summit is located 14 miles west of the Utah border.

Great Basin National Park is a United States National Park established in 1986, located in east-central Nevada near the Utah border. The park derives its name from the Great Basin, the dry and mountainous region between the Sierra Nevada and the Wasatch Mountains. Topographically, this area is known as the Basin and Range Province. The park is located approximately 290 miles north of Las Vegas and protects 77,180 acres .
