Cold River (Bearcamp River)

The Cold River is an 11.9 mile long (19.2 km) river located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Bearcamp River, part of the Ossipee River and Saco River watersheds. The river lies entirely in the town of Sandwich. The Cold River begins on the southern slopes of Sandwich Mountain, within the Sandwich Wilderness of the White Mountain National Forest.

1940 New Hampshire earthquake

The 1940 New Hampshire earthquake struck on December 20, 1940, with a force of Richter scale magnitude 5.5. The greatest earthquake recorded to hit the state, it hit central New Hampshire with a maximum VII intensity and was followed by a similar-sized earthquake four days later. Damage from the earthquake left minor fractures or knocked over chimneys, in a zone extending through New Hampshire and four other states: Maine, New York, Vermont and Massachusetts.

Mount Whittier

Mount Whittier is a mountain in Carroll County, New Hampshire, in the northern Ossipee Mountains. Named after John Greenleaf Whittier, the peak is not to be confused with nearby Nickerson Mountain, which was once known as Mount Whittier. There are no hiking trails on Mount Whittier. There was once a CCC alpine ski trail on the northern face.

Barnstormers Theatre

The Barnstormers Theatre is located in Tamworth, New Hampshire, and is the oldest ongoing professional summer theatre in the country. It was founded in 1931 by Francis Cleveland, the son of twenty-second president Grover Cleveland. It is one of the only professional theatres in the country that performs eight shows in eight consecutive weeks every summer.

Whiteface River (New Hampshire)

The Whiteface River is a 5.9-mile-long river rising in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the United States. Its waters flow by way of the Cold River, Bearcamp River, Ossipee Lake, the Ossipee River and the Saco River into the Gulf of Maine, an arm of the Atlantic Ocean. The Whiteface River, sharing a name with the 4,020-foot-high Mount Whiteface, rises on the southern slopes of the Sandwich Range in the town of Waterville Valley.
