Green Pond, New Jersey

Green Pond is the name of both a lake and of a private lakeside residential community in northern New Jersey. The lakeside community is managed by two corporations, Green Pond Corporation and Lake End Corporation. Despite a name suggestive of a small lily pad and algae-coated pool, Green Pond lake is fairly large (approximately 2.5 mi long and 0.5 mi mile in breadth at its widest point - 465 acres total), and the water clarity is high due to the lake's source.

Rockaway Township, New Jersey

Rockaway Township is a township in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 24,156, reflecting an increase of 1,226 (+5.3%) from the 22,930 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 3,358 (+17.2%) from the 19,572 counted in the 1990 Census. Rockaway Township was incorporated as a township by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 8, 1844, from portions of Hanover Township and Pequannock Township.

Hibernia mines

The Hibernia mines are a series of iron mines in northern New Jersey, worked from pre-Revolutionary times until 1916. An exploratory shaft was drilled in the 1950s but was not worked, and the shafts and adit were partly or totally sealed in 1972 and 1989. After its closure, the mine became the largest bat hibernaculum in New Jersey, with as many 30,000 bats each winter. In 2010, less than 10% that number was found in the mine following an outbreak of white nose syndrome.
