Lawrenceville is a census-designated place and unincorporated area located within Lawrence Township in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. Until the 2000 Census the area was part of the Mercerville-Hamilton Square CDP,which was split into two CDPs, Mercerville and Hamilton Square. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP population was 3,887. Lawrenceville is located roughly halfway between Princeton and Trenton. Lawrenceville is also known as the "village of Lawrenceville.

The county is named for Continental Army General Hugh Mercer, who died as a result of wounds received at the Battle of Princeton on January 3, 1777.
