Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (C&TS) is a narrow gauge heritage railroad running between Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado. It runs over the 10,015 ft Cumbres Pass. The track was originally laid in 1880 by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. In 1970 the C&TS began to take tourists on six-hour trips between the two towns, using steam locomotives. As Denver & Rio Grande Railroad San Juan Extension, the railway was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Cumbres Pass

Cumbres Pass, elevation 10,020 ft, is a mountain pass in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. The pass is traversed by State Highway 17 and the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. The highway has a moderate 5.8% approach on the north side and a gentler, 4% approach on the south side. It is rarely closed in winter and does not normally cause problems for vehicles, since the road is not a major through highway.

Brazos Mountains

The Brazos Mountains is a range in far northern Rio Arriba County, in northern New Mexico in the southwestern United States. A high crest runs from the border with Colorado for over 20 miles in a south-southeasterly direction. The high point of the range at 11,405 feet is on Grouse Mesa, at the Brazos Benchmark. Two miles (3 km) to the southeast is the more distinctive Brazos Peak, at 11,288 feet (3440 m).
