Dover Plains is a hamlet in Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population was 1,323 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown Metropolitan Statistical Area. Dover Plains is in the northeast part of the Town of Dover on NY 22. Metro-North Railroad has a Harlem Line station here, bringing commuters to New York City. This station was the line's northern terminus for many years, until the line was expanded four miles north to Wassaic in the early 2000s.

The Dover Plains Metro-North Railroad station serves the residents of Dover Plains, New York via the Harlem Line. Trains leave for New York City every two hours, and about every 30 minutes during rush hour. It is 76.5 miles (123 km) from Grand Central Terminal and travel time to Grand Central is approximately two hours, two minutes. The 7.5-mile (12 km) distance from Dover Plains to Harlem Valley – Wingdale, the next station to the south, is the longest between two stations on the Harlem Line.

Dutchess Day School
Dutchess Day School is a co-educational day school located in Millbrook, New York that serves students from Pre-K through Grade 8. Founded in 1955, it first had only 3 teachers and nineteen students. Enrollment for 2007–2008 was 176 students with 32 teachers. Its mission is to "nurture each child in mind, body, and spirit and guide students toward responsibility for themselves, one another, and the world around them".

Dover Furnace (NYCRR station)
Dover Furnace was a station on the Harlem Line of the New York Central Railroad. It was 72 miles north from Grand Central Terminal in New York City. The station was closed at some point between 1959 and 1968. No station structures remain at the site. The site of the former Dover Furnace Station can be found on the south side of a one lane bridge over the tracks which carries Dutchess County Road 26.
