Bernhard Fernow

Bernhard Eduard Graf von Fernow (January 7, 1851 – February 6, 1923) was the third chief of the USDA's Division of Forestry of the United States from 1886 – 1898, preceding Gifford Pinchot in that position, and laying much of the groundwork for the establishment of the United States Forest Service in 1905. Pinchot was the first Chief Forester of the USFS.

Middle Saranac Lake

Middle Saranac Lake, also called Round Lake, is the smallest of three connected lakes, part of the Saranac River, near the village of Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks in northern New York. Two-thirds of its shoreline is state-owned. The lake is located in the towns of Harrietstown and Santa Clara, in Franklin County. With Upper Saranac Lake and Lower Saranac Lake, a 17-mile paddle with only one portage is possible.

Upper Saranac Lake

Upper Saranac Lake is one of three connected lakes, part of the Saranac River, in the towns of Santa Clara and Harrietstown, near the village of Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks in northern New York. Upper Saranac Lake is the sixth largest lake in the Adirondacks. With Middle Saranac Lake and Lower Saranac Lake, a 17-mile paddle with only one carry is possible. There are 20 primitive campsites accessible by boat available on a first-come basis.

Donaldson Mountain

Donaldson Mountain is a mountain located in Franklin County, New York, named in 1924 after Alfred Lee Donaldson (1866–1923), author of A History of the Adirondacks. The mountain is part of the Seward Mountains of the Adirondacks. Donaldson Mtn. is flanked to the northeast by Seward Mountain, and to the south by Mount Emmons. Donaldson Mountain stands within the watershed of the Raquette River, which drains into the Saint Lawrence River in Canada, and into the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.

Seward Mountain (New York)

Seward Mountain is a mountain located in Franklin County, New York, of which it is the highest point. Seward Mtn. is named after William H. Seward (1801–1872), Governor of New York (1839–1842), and United States Secretary of State (1861–1869). The mountain is part of the Seward Mountains of the Adirondacks. Seward Mountain is flanked to the southwest by Donaldson Mountain, and to the east faces Seymour Mountain across Ouluska Pass.
