Bernhard Fernow
Bernhard Eduard Graf von Fernow (January 7, 1851 – February 6, 1923) was the third chief of the USDA's Division of Forestry of the United States from 1886 – 1898, preceding Gifford Pinchot in that position, and laying much of the groundwork for the establishment of the United States Forest Service in 1905. Upper Saranac Lake is one of three connected lakes, part of the Saranac River, in the towns of Santa Clara and Harrietstown, near the village of Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks in northern New York. Upper Saranac Lake is the sixth largest lake in the Adirondacks. With Middle Saranac Lake and Lower Saranac Lake, a 17-mile paddle with only one carry is possible. There are 20 primitive campsites accessible by boat available on a first-come basis.

Middle Saranac Lake
Middle Saranac Lake, also called Round Lake, is the smallest of three connected lakes, part of the Saranac River, near the village of Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks in northern New York. Two-thirds of its shoreline is state-owned. The lake is located in the towns of Harrietstown and Santa Clara, in Franklin County. With Upper Saranac Lake and Lower Saranac Lake, a 17-mile paddle with only one portage is possible.

Saranac Inn
The Saranac Inn was a large, luxurious hotel located on a peninsula at the northern end of the Upper Saranac Lake in the town of Santa Clara in the Adirondacks in New York State, USA. It was frequented by US Presidents Grover Cleveland and Chester A. Arthur and New York Governor Charles Evans Hughes. It closed in 1962, and burned to the ground in 1978.

Tupper Lake (village), New York
Tupper Lake is a village in Franklin County, New York. The population was 3,667 at the 2010 census. The village takes its name from a nearby lake, which, in turn, is the name of a surveyor (Ansel Norton Tupper) who drowned there while fishing. The Village of Tupper Lake is in the Town of Tupper Lake. The town and the village are in the southwest part of the county. Tupper Lake is home to the The Wild Center, a 54,000 square feet natural history center on a 31 acres campus.
