Sullivan County, New York

Sullivan County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2010 census, the population was 77,547. The county seat is Monticello. The name is in honor of Major General John Sullivan, who was a hero in the American Revolutionary War. The county was the site of hundreds of Borscht Belt hotels and resorts, which had their heyday from the 1920s through the 1970s.

Kutsher's Hotel

Kutsher's Hotel and Country Club in Monticello, New York, is the longest running of the Borscht Belt grand resorts (in the Catskill Mountains area of New York State). While the region was open to any and all visitors, the Borscht Belt was so named due to the largely Jewish-American clientele that made the Catskills the primary vacation destination for Jews in the northeastern United States.

Monticello Raceway

Monticello Gaming and Raceway is a harness racing track, and home to a relatively new racino, in Monticello, Sullivan County, New York. It is off Exit 104 of Route 17, on New York State Route 17B. The racetrack is nicknamed "The Mighty M" and races standardbred horse races during the afternoons year round. The current racetrack is an 1/2 mile oval. The track opened on June 27, 1958, in order to serve as a stimulant to attract more people to Monticello's resort area.

Sullivan County International Airport

Sullivan County International Airport is a public airport located in the town of Bethel, six miles (10 km) northwest of the central business district of the village of Monticello, in Sullivan County, New York, United States. It is owned by the Sullivan County Division of Public Works. Originally built in the 1960s, the airport is now a Part 139 certified airport capable of handling small general aviation aircraft as well as larger business jets.
