Peekskill Military Academy

Peekskill Military Academy was founded as 'Peekskill Academy'. It was a military academy for young men and women, founded in 1833, located in Peekskill, New York, United States. The academy was built by a hanging tree and when a building was built near the great tree (1833), one of the British who was captured and summarily hanged, Daniel Strang’s bones were found buried nearby. In 1841 the academy decided to only admit boys. By 1857 it was known as Peekskill Military Academy.

Peekskill, New York

Peekskill is a city in Westchester County, New York. It is situated on a bay along the east side of the Hudson River, across from Jones Point. This community was known to be an early American industrial center, primarily for its iron plow and stove products. The Binney & Smith Company, now makers of Crayola products, started as the Peekskill Chemical Company at Annsville in 1864.

Peekskill (Metro-North station)

The Peekskill Metro-North Railroad station serves residents of Peekskill, New York via the Hudson Line. Trains leave for New York City every hour on weekdays and about every 25 minutes during rush hour. It is 41.2 miles from Grand Central Terminal and travel time to Grand Central is approximately one hour. It is the northernmost station on the line in Westchester County. It is just south of a grade crossing whose gates remain down as long as any northbound train is in the station.

The New York City blackout of 1977 was an electricity blackout that affected most of New York City on July 13–14, 1977. The only neighborhoods in New York City that were not affected were in southern Queens, and neighborhoods of the Rockaways, which are part of the Long Island Lighting Company system.

Buchanan, New York
