Astoria, Queens

Astoria is a middle class and commercial neighborhood in the northwestern corner of the New York City borough of Queens. Located in Community Board 1, Astoria is bounded by the East River and is adjacent to three other Queens neighborhoods: Long Island City, Sunnyside, and Woodside (bordering at 50th Street). Astoria is patrolled by the New York City Police Department's 114th Precinct.

Astoria – Ditmars Boulevard (BMT Astoria Line)

Astoria – Ditmars Boulevard is the northern terminal station on the BMT Astoria Line of the New York City Subway. Located between 23rd Avenue and Ditmars Boulevard and 31st Street in the Queens neighborhood of Astoria, it is served by the N train at all times, and by additional Q train on weekdays. This station has two tracks and an island platform, partially located under the New York Connecting Railroad (NYCR). The tracks end at bumper blocks at the north end of the platform.

Astoria Boulevard (BMT Astoria Line)

Astoria Boulevard or Astoria Boulevard – Hoyt Avenue is an express station on the BMT Astoria Line, it is served by the N train at all times, and by the Q train on weekdays. This elevated station opened on July 19, 1917. It has three tracks and two island platforms. The center track is not normally used. The station has wooden canopies with transite and wooden mezzanines. The northbound platform’s benches are surrounded by low windscreen on three sides.

Rikers Island Bridge

Rikers Island Bridge (officially named Francis R. Buono Memorial Bridge) connects Rikers Island to the borough of Queens in New York City. The bridge begins in the Steinway neighborhood of Queens near the intersection of Hazen Street and 19th Avenue and continues to the south side of Rikers Island (which is officially part of the Bronx). The Rikers Island Bridge is the sole route to the island for vehicular traffic. Before the bridge opened in 1966, access to Rikers Island was by ferry only.
