Southern High School is located in Durham, North Carolina, USA. Southern is part of Durham Public Schools. Southern has prominent football, baseball, and basketball programs as well as the Symphonic Soul of the South Marching Band. There are currently 1574 students. Southern is academically one of the worst-performing schools in Durham; the state has threatened to close the school on account of its test scores, which are below 55%. Durham County is the core of the four-county Durham-Chapel Hill Metropolitan Area. which has a population of 504,357 as of Census 2010. The US Office of Management and Budget also includes Durham as a part of the Raleigh-Durham-Cary Combined Statistical Area, which has a population of 1,749,525 as of Census 2010.

Catsburg Store

Catsburg Store is located at the junction of Old Oxford Highway and Hamlin Road in Durham County, North Carolina. The Catsburg Store is about halfway between Durham and Butner, and is near historic Stagville. This two-story, hip-roofed, frame structure is a well-preserved box-and-canopy store. Built in the 1920s by Sheriff Eugene G. Belvin, it has a high false front, and a one-story gable-roof supported by large wooden posts.
