It is used as a conference center by the ARP church, and is used to accommodate guests of 500 people during the summer and 400 people during the winter. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 13,137, up fivefold in one century. It is the county seat of Henderson County. Like the county, the city is named for 19th-century North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Leonard Henderson.
