Crystal Coast

The Crystal Coast is an 85-mile stretch of coastline in North Carolina that extends from the Cape Lookout National Seashore, which includes 56 miles of protected beaches, westward to the New River. It is also known as the Southern Outer Banks (SOBX) and is a popular area with tourists and second-home owners in the summer. The absolute boundaries of this coast are often disputed, but the main area includes all the major Carteret County beaches (those on Bogue Banks, which face south).

Harkers Island, North Carolina

Harkers Island is a census-designated place (CDP) in Carteret County, North Carolina, United States. The population of Harkers Island was 1,623 at the 2007 census. Harkers Island is unincorporated and receives most public services, including law enforcement and public education, from Carteret County. A membership cooperative provides the island with electric and water services. Major industries on the island include fishing, boat building, tourism, and waterfowl decoy carving.

Core Banks, North Carolina

The Core Banks are barrier islands in North Carolina, part of the Cape Lookout National Seashore. They extend from Ocracoke Inlet to Cape Lookout, and consist of two low relief narrow islands, North Core Banks and South Core Banks, and, since September 2011, two smaller islands. New Drum Inlet, and now Old Drum Inlet, and Ophelia Inlet, separate the islands. They are now uninhabited, although Portsmouth, at the north end of the Core Banks, was once a substantial port.

Otway, North Carolina

Otway is a small town located in Carteret County, North Carolina, United States. It has 413 residents. It is the only city that is incorporated and is the most economical area of the region of Down East, North Carolina. The Governor of Otway is Jim "Chew Tobacco" Murrell.
