Yadkin River
The Yadkin River is one of the longest rivers in North Carolina, flowing 215 miles . It rises in the northwestern portion of the state near the Blue Ridge Parkway's Thunder Hill Overlook. Several parts of the river are impounded by dams for water, power, and flood control. The river becomes the Pee Dee River at the confluence of the Uwharrie River. The river flows into South Carolina near Cheraw, which is at the fall line where it becomes the Great Pee Dee River.

Uwharrie Mountains
The Uwharrie Mountains are a mountain range in North Carolina spanning the counties of Randolph, Montgomery, Stanly, and Davidson. The range's foothills stretch into Cabarrus, Anson, Union counties, and terminate in the hills of Person County. The Uwharries were once a coastal mountain range; isostasy has slowly raised the eastern seabed until today they lie in the Piedmont of North Carolina over 150 miles from the coast.

Badin Lake
Badin Lake is one of a series of lakes created by the damming of the Yadkin-Pee Dee River in the Uwharrie Lakes Region of the United States. The Badin Lake Dam was built in 1917 to support a local aluminum smelting plant (Alcoa Aluminum Company of America), and the associated community of Badin was named for the founder, Adrien Badin. Badin Lake is in the Piedmont area of North Carolina.. It is contained by Narrows Dam at the town of Badin, North Carolina.

Hardaway Site
Hardaway Site, also known as 31ST4, is an archaeological site near Badin, North Carolina. It preserves remains of prehistory, and is also important in the history of archeological methodology. The site was excavated by archaeologists from the University of North Carolina (UNC) from 1948 until 1980 under an arrangement with Alcoa, which owns the land. While the archaeologists were allowed to study the artifacts found, Alcoa retained ownership of all of the artifacts.
