Iron road is reference to the railroad that the town was built around. It is part of the Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,114 at the 2010 census, a loss of 8.0 percent from 1,211 at the 2000 census.

Latimer County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Its county seat is Wilburton. As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,154, a 4.3 percent gain from 10,692 at the 2000 census.
