Fewell, Oklahoma

Fewell is a community in eastern Pushmataha County, Oklahoma. A United States Post Office operated here from November 4, 1913 to October 15, 1943. It was named for Benjamin F. Fewell, its first postmaster. The Fewell family founded the community and the oldest marked grave in its cemetery—dated 1906—is that of a Fewell. Fewell is situated in the verdant but isolated Little River (Oklahoma) valley.

Little Dixie (Oklahoma)

Little Dixie is the name given to southeast Oklahoma, also known as Kiamichi Country, which is heavily influenced by southern "Dixie" culture, as it was settled chiefly by Southerners seeking a start in new lands following the American Civil War. The region is not clearly defined; its exact boundaries vary by source, falling mostly within the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma's tribal area as well as some Chickasaw and Muscogee Creek lands.

Kiamichi Country

Southeastern Oklahoma, also known by its official tourism designation, Kiamichi Country, encompasses the southeastern quarter of the state of Oklahoma. The term "Kiamichi Country" was coined by the Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation as one of six travel destination regions within the state and is named after the Kiamichi River and Kiamichi Mountains.

Nolia, Oklahoma

Nolia is a former community in eastern Pushmataha County, Oklahoma, five miles east of Nashoba, Oklahoma. A United States Post Office operated here from October 26, 1912 to December 15, 1920. It was named for Nolia Johnson, wife of Ben F. Johnson (1885-1964), its first postmaster. Nolia was located in the scenic Little River valley, and was adjacent to Little River. Kiamichi Mountains

The Kiamichi Mountains are a mountain range in southeastern Oklahoma. A subrange within the larger Ouachita Mountains that extend from Oklahoma to western Arkansas, the Kiamichi Mountains sit within Le Flore, Pushmataha, and McCurtain counties near the towns of Poteau and Albion. The foothills of the Kiamichi Mountains sit within Haskell County, Northern Le Flore County, and Northern Pittsburg County. Its peaks, which line up south of the Kiamichi River, reach 2,500 feet in elevation.
