Howe High School (Howe, Oklahoma)

Howe High School is a secondary school located in the rural town of Howe, Oklahoma. The school educates students in 9th–12th grades. The mascot of Howe High School is the lion. As of 2007, the school principal is Brooks Cawhorn. In 2004, their girls basketball team won the Class A state championship. In 2007, the girls basketball team won state runner-up. In 2008, the girls basketball team won the Class A State Championship.

Heavener is a city in Le Flore County, Oklahoma, United States. It is part of the Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was named for Joseph H. Heavener, who settled in the area about 1877. The population was 3,414 at the 2010 census, an increase of 6.7 percent from 3,201 at the 2000 census. Heavener is notable for the Heavener Runestone just outside the city limits.

The Heavener Runestone is an inscribed stone located in Heavener, Oklahoma. The land on which it sits is now a state park on Poteau Mountain, just outside the town limits. The origin of the stone's runic carvings is disputed.
