Beard Cabin

The Beard Cabin is a structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located in Shawnee, Oklahoma. It is considered to be the first home built in Shawnee. A plaque near the cabin dates it to 1895. The cabin was built by Etta Ray and her father, P.H. Ray. Assisting were Etta's future brother-in-law, John Beard as well as John's sister, Lola Beard. Etta later married Henry Beard and they were the first inhabitants. Sleeping quarters are located on the upper floor of the cabin.

Shawnee, Oklahoma

Shawnee is a city in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 29,857 at the 2010 census, a 4.0 percent increase from 28,692 at the 2000 census. The city is part of the Oklahoma City-Shawnee Combined Statistical Area; it is also the county seat of Pottawatomie County and the principal city of the Shawnee Micropolitan Statistical Area. Located on Interstate 40, Shawnee is just 30 minutes east of the attractions in downtown Oklahoma City.
