Imnaha National Forest

Imnaha National Forest was established in Oregon on March 1, 1907 with 1,750,240 acres when the first Wallowa National Forest and Chenismus National Forest were combined. Its lands presently exist as part of Wallowa–Whitman National Forest. It is adjacent to Hells Canyon National Recreation Area.

Wallowa National Forest

Wallowa National Forest was first established as the Wallowa Forest Reserve in Oregon on May 6, 1905 with 747,200 acres . On March 1, 1907 it was combined with the Chenismus Forest Reserve to create Imnaha National Forest, which was then renamed Wallowa on July 1, 1908. In 1954 it was administratively combined with Whitman National Forest to make Wallowa–Whitman National Forest.

Sheep Rock

Sheep Rock is an overlook of Hells Canyon. It is located in the Payette National Forest about 45 miles northeast of Council, Idaho and was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1976. The formation consists of two contrasting series of layers from the Columbia River Basalt Group. The layers are separated by an unconformity and provide an unobstructed view of this type of geologic phenomenon. Sheep Rock is named for the Bighorn Sheep that used to inhabit the area.

Homestead, Oregon

Homestead is an unincorporated community in Baker County, Oregon, United States. Homestead lies on the Snake River south of Hells Canyon National Recreation Area and four miles north of Oxbow. Its ZIP code is 97840, and its area codes are 458 and 541. Homestead was platted around 1898, along a Northwest Railway Company line that never developed. It thrived because of the patronage of the miners from the nearby Iron Dyke Mine and because it was railhead for the many local orchards.
