The Palmerton Arboretum is an arboretum of 5 acres which contains almost 90 species of trees and shrubs from around the world. It is located on West Evans Creek Road in Rogue River, Oregon, United States on the site of a 1930s-era tree nursery. Admission is free. Savage Rapids Dam
Savage Rapids Dam was an approximately 39-foot-high, 500-foot-long irrigation diversion dam spanning the mainstem of the Rogue River in Josephine County, Oregon. The dam was demolished and removed in 2009. From 1921 until the spring of 2009, the Savage Rapids Dam almost entirely functioned for irrigation purposes, and it did not provide any flood control, hydro-electric power, inland waterway, or other significant beneficial uses.

Starvation Heights, Oregon
Starvation Heights is an unincorporated community in Jackson County, Oregon, U.S. It is located about 4 miles north of the community of Rogue River, and 9 miles ENE of Grants Pass. It was named before 1883 for its poor and infertile soil, a granite-like mix which supported only scrub vegetation. The neighboring rise is slightly lower in elevation, but had rich soil. Failed farmers were said to be "starved out" when they moved on. The soil has since been improved.
