Summer Lake Wildlife Area

The Summer Lake Wildlife Area (also known as Summer Lake State Game Management Area) is a 29.6-square-mile wildlife refuge located on the northwestern edge of the Great Basin drainage in south-central Oregon. It is administered by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. The refuge is an important stop for waterfowl traveling along the Pacific Flyway during their spring and fall migrations.

Ana River

The Ana River is a short spring-fed river in south-central Oregon. It is on the northwestern edge of the Great Basin drainage. It flows 7 miles from springs at the foot of Winter Ridge through high desert, range, and wetlands before emptying into Summer Lake. For most of its course, the Ana River flows through the Summer Lake Wildlife Area, which is maintained by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Picture Rock Pass

Picture Rock Pass (el. 4830 ft. ) is a mountain pass in Oregon traversed by Oregon Route 31. It is located between the communities of Silver Lake and Paisley in Lake County. Geographically, it separates Silver and Summer lakes. These two lakes with their related drainage basins are the most northwesterly part of the Great Basin. The name of the pass comes from some pictograms on rocks south of the highway which are not presently understood.

Summer Lake (Oregon)

Summer Lake is a large, shallow, alkali lake in Lake County, Oregon, United States. At high water it is about 15 miles long and 5 miles wide, and is located 5 miles south of the small, unincorporated community of Summer Lake, Oregon. The lake was named by explorer John C. Fremont on his expedition into Central Oregon in 1843. The marshes around the lake support a wide variety of birds and other wildlife.

Silver Lake (Oregon)

Silver Lake is a lake in Lake County, Oregon, United States. It is 6 miles east of the community of Silver Lake. It is unknown who first gave the lake its descriptive name. Central Oregon residents attribute it to John C. Frémont, although no proof has been found, and he would not have seen the lake on his first visit to Oregon in 1843. The Klamath called the lake Kalpshi, which may have been derived from the word kalapsh, meaning a decayed log.
