It serves the city of Newport and is located two nautical miles (3.7 km) northeast of its central business district. There is no scheduled airline service available, but it once was served by Air New England. The village is also the basis of a census-designated place (CDP), which extends south along the shore of Narragansett Bay into the town of Middletown to encompass the village of Lawtons and the port facilities at Coddington Cove.
