Lobeco (pronounced luh-BEE-co) is an unincorporated community located in Beaufort County, South Carolina, USA. Situated about 10 miles (12 km) north of Beaufort, it is a predominantly agricultural area that has retained its rural character. A small community area consisting of a library, post office, and produce market serve as an anchor for the surrounding community. It is served by U.S. Highway 21. Nearby communities include Dale, Seabrook, and Sheldon.

Seabrook, South Carolina

Seabrook is an unincorporated community located in Beaufort County, South Carolina, USA. Situated in northern part of the county along the Whale Branch River, Seabrook was founded in the late 1700s as a collection of plantations became established in the area. In the late 1800s, Seabrook became a stop on the Port Royal and Augusta Railway and featured a small, but bustling downtown area that had a federal Post Office, a general store, a gas station, and a train station.

Sheldon, South Carolina

Sheldon is an unincorporated community in Beaufort County, South Carolina, United States, at latitude 32.602 and longitude -80.793. Sheldon is located approximately halfway between Beaufort and Yemassee and just east of Interstate 95 in the heart of the Lowcountry region. U.S. Highway 17 and U.S. Highway 21 run through the center of the community in a wrong-way concurrency.

Battle of Beaufort

The Battle of Beaufort, also known as the Battle of Port Royal Island, was fought on February 3, 1779, near Beaufort, South Carolina, during the American Revolutionary War. The inconsequential battle took place not long after British forces consolidated control around Savannah, Georgia, which they had captured in December 1778. Brigadier General Augustine Prevost sent 200 British regulars to seize Port Royal Island at the mouth of the Broad River in South Carolina in late January 1779.

Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort or MCAS Beaufort is a United States Marine Corps air base located three miles (5 km) northwest of the central business district of Beaufort, a city in Beaufort County, South Carolina, United States. About 4200 personnel serve at the station and it is home to six Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornet fighter-attack squadrons plus one Navy F/A-18 strike fighter squadron.
