Meade County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Dakota. It was created in 1889 and was named for Fort Meade, which was garrisoned as a United States military post in the area in 1878 and was named for General George Meade. As of the 2010 census, the population was 25,434. Its county seat is Sturgis. Meade County is part of the Rapid City, South Dakota, Metropolitan Statistical Area.
