Lascassas, Tennessee

Lascassas (also Las Casas or Las Cassas) is an unincorporated community in Rutherford County, Tennessee, near the city of Murfreesboro. Its geographic coordinates are 35°55'49"N, 86°17'28"W. The community's namesake is Bartolomé de las Casas (1474-1566), a Spanish missionary on Christopher Columbus's third expedition who was known as the "Apostle of the Indians" in recognition of his efforts to protect the native population from slavery and abuse.

Battle of Vaught's Hill

The Battle of Vaught's Hill, also known as the Battle of Milton, was a battle of the American Civil War, occurring on March 20, 1863, in Rutherford County, Tennessee. During the inactivity following the Battle of Stones River, a Union brigade-sized reconnaissance force, under Col. Albert S. Hall, left Murfreesboro on March 18. Circling to the northeast, Hall encountered Confederate Brig. Gen. John Hunt Morgan's cavalry command, which caused him to fall back to a position east of Milton.

WMTS-FM

WMTS-FM is a student run college radio station licensed to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA. The station is currently owned by Middle Tennessee State University. It is the fourth attempt by students to organize a student run radio station at MTSU. While the larger, professional station WMOT employed students, others felt unrepresented. A student group led by Reza Baktar worked to achieve enough interest and authorization from the Student Government Association.

James E. Walker Library

The James E. Walker Library is the campus library of Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). Opened in 1999 under university president James E. Walker, it replaced an older library in Todd Hall, now home to the Art Department. A four-story, 250,000-square-foot building, it has a capacity of 800,000 volumes. However, the MTSU library already has over 900,000 volumes. Construction on the James E. Walker Library started on the 85th anniversary of the university's founding, September 11, 1996.
