Cheatham County is part of the Nashville-Davidson–Mufreesboro–Franklin Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is named for Tennessee politician Edward S. Cheatham (1818–1878).

The park is a linear park that was created to connect several state historic, natural, and archaeological sites along the lower Harpeth River.
