Burra Burra Mine (Tennessee)

The Burra Burra Mine is a copper mine located in Ducktown, Tennessee, in the southeastern United States. Named after the famous mine in Australia, the Burra Burra Mine extracted over 15 million tons (14 million metric tons) of copper ore during its years of operation between 1899 and 1959. The mine's remaining structures are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Burra Burra Mine Historic District.

Apalachia Dam

Apalachia Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Hiwassee River in Cherokee County, in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The dam is the lowermost of three dams on the river owned and operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority, which built the dam in the early 1940s to provide emergency power for aluminum production during World War II.

Hiwassee Dam High School

Hiwassee Dam High School (HDHS) in Murphy, North Carolina serves grades 9-12 and is one of only three high schools in the Cherokee County Schools. As of 2007 it had an active enrollment of 209 students and a full-time teaching staff of 20 teachers giving an average of 11 students per teacher.

Copperhill, Tennessee

Copperhill is a city in Polk County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 511 at the 2000 census. It is included in the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. For years, the production of copper and acid denuded the area of any greenery, and in nearby creeks copper pellets are still visible. Some reforestation between Ducktown and Copperhill has taken place, as a result of plantings of acid-resistant vegetation.
