Ramsey House (Knox County, Tennessee)

The Ramsey House is a two-story stone house in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. Also known as Swan Pond, the house was constructed circa 1797 by English architect Thomas Hope for Colonel Francis Alexander Ramsey (1764–1820), whose family operated a plantation at the site until the U.S. Civil War. In 1969, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places for its architecture and its role in the region's early 19th-century history.

J. G. M. Ramsey

James Gettys McGready Ramsey (March 25, 1797 – April 11, 1884) was an American historian, physician, and businessman, active primarily in East Tennessee during the nineteenth century. Ramsey is perhaps best known for his book, The Annals of Tennessee, a seminal work documenting the state's frontier and early statehood periods.

Holston River

The Holston River is a major river system of southwestern Virginia and east Tennessee. The three major forks of the Holston (its North, Middle and South Forks) rise in southwestern Virginia and have their confluence near Kingsport, Tennessee. The North Fork flows 138 miles southwest from Sharon Springs in Bland County, Virginia. The Middle Fork flows 56.5 miles from near the western border of Wythe County, Virginia, joining the South Fork in Washington County southeast of Abingdon.

French Broad River

The French Broad River flows 213 miles from near the village of ]]Rosman in Transylvania County, North Carolina, into the state of Tennessee. Its confluence with the Holston River at Knoxville is the beginning of the Tennessee River. The French Broad River was named by white settlers centuries ago because it was one of the two broad rivers in western North Carolina.
