Great Hiwassee

Great Hiwassee (Ayuhwasi Egwaha) was an important Overhill Cherokee town from the late 17th through the early 19th centuries. It was located on the Hiwassee River in present-day Polk County, Tennessee, on the north bank of the river where modern U.S. Route 411 crosses the river. The site is now part of the Tennessee Forestry Division's East Tennessee Nursery. The town was linked to Great Tellico and Chota to the north, via the Warrior Path, which followed Conasauga Creek into the mountains.

Gee Creek Wilderness

Designated in 1975, the Gee Creek Wilderness is a 2,493-acre wilderness area lying mostly within Polk County in the U.S. state of Tennessee. Its northeasternmost section extends into Monroe County. Its elevation is 2,560 feet above sea level. Gee Creek Wilderness is the smallest wilderness in the Cherokee National Forest.

The Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park is a Tennessee state park that provides access to the Hiwassee and Ocoee rivers.
