Bluegrove, Texas

Bluegrove is an unincorporated community on Farm to Market Road 172 11 miles southeast of Henrietta in central Clay County, Texas, United States. Early settlers named the area for the post oak trees that appeared blue from a distance at certain times of the day. The Bluegrove Baptist Church was established in 1878 by families living in the area around what would become the town, and is the oldest permanent Baptist church in Wichita, Archer, and Clay Counties. Clay County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. The county was founded in 1857. Its name is in honor of Henry Clay, famous American statesman, member of the United States Senate from Kentucky and United States Secretary of State in the 19th century. It is part of the Wichita Falls, Texas, Wichita Falls metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, its population was 10,752. The seat of the county is Henrietta.
