Fort Bend County, Texas

Fort Bend County is a county located along the Gulf Coast region in the U.S. state of Texas within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, its population was 585,375. amounting to 65.1% growth in ten years. Since the 1970s Fort Bend County has been one of the fastest-growing counties in the United States. It is named for a blockhouse at a bend of the Brazos River; the fort was the start of the community in early days.

Smithers Lake

Smithers Lake is a lake in Fort Bend County, Texas. It is located ten miles (16 km) southeast of Richmond. It is near the Brazos River. The project is owned and operated by NRG Energy as the cooling-water supply for a steam-electric generating station, W. A. Parish Electric Generating Station. It was previously owned by the Houston Lighting and Power Company. Construction was started on August 22, 1956, and was completed on July 1, 1957.
