Allison, Texas

Allison is an unincorporated community in northeastern Wheeler County, Texas, United States, at the junction of Texas Farm roads 1046 and 277. Founded in 1929 as a stop for the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway, the town was named for the general manager of the railroad, R. H. Allison. The Lone Star Townsite Company laid out the town. The town reached its height in population in 1941, just before the country entered World War II, at 200. It had a population of approximately 135 in 2000.

Battle of Little Robe Creek

The Battle of Little Robe Creek, also called the Battle of Antelope Hills, took place on May 12, 1858. It actually was a series of three distinct encounters that took place on a single day, between the Comanches on the one side, and Texas Rangers, militia, and allied Tonkawas attacking them. It was undertaken against the laws of the United States at the time, which strictly forbade such an incursion into the Indian Territories of Oklahoma, and marked a significant escalation of the Indian Wars.
