Nigton, Texas

Nigton is a community on FM's 2262 and 2501 in Trinity County, Texas. It is 17 miles from Groveton. It was founded by former slaves in 1873. In 1896, the town had 3 churches, a sawmill and gin, a wagonmaker, shoemaker, and a population of 500. The post office opened in 1894 and closed in 1923. By the 1940's, a school, church and store remained. The population was 10 at this time. In 1990, the population was 34, many of whom were desendants of the slaves who founded the town.

Helmic, Texas

Helmic, Texas, also known as Alabama Station, is a rural community in Trinity County, Texas on FM 357 12 miles from Groveton. It was established on the Groveton, Lufkin, and northern Railway in 1908. The town was originally known as Alabama Station, but when the town applied for a post office, the town was changed to Helmic, who was named after a railroad engineer. In the 1920s the population was around 300. In the mid-1920s, the town declined after a local lumber company moved to Colmesneil.

Trevat, Texas

Trevat, Texas was a farming community 12 miles from Groveton in Trinity County, Texas. It was established around the Civil War time. There was a post office in 1892, and by 1896, there was a flour mill and gin, a store, and a population of about 120. In 1925, the population was around 300, but the town declined around the late 1920's. In 1927 the post office closed and by World War II, the school closed. By 1990 only a church, cemetery, and a few houses remained.
