Blanchard, Texas

Blanchard is an unincorporated community located at the junction of Farm roads 3126 and 2457, about 82 miles north of Houston in Polk County, Texas, United States. In the early 1900s, a railroad stop was established in the area and named Blanchard by William Carlisle, owner of the sawmill at nearby Onalaska, after his brother-in-law, Ben Blanchard, of New York. In 1949, the rail line, which had been operated by the Waco, Beaumont, Trinity & Sabine Railway Co. since 1923, was abandoned.

The population was 8,071 at the 2010 census. West Livingston has the Livingston Municipal Airport and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Allan B. Polunsky Unit, the location of the State of Texas death row for men.

Livingston Municipal Airport (Texas)

Livingston Municipal Airport is a city-owned public-use airport located five nautical miles southwest of the central business district of Livingston, a city in Polk County, Texas, United States. According to the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2009–2013, it is categorized as a general aviation facility. The airport is located in West Livingston along Farm to Market Road 350 South and along the eastern side of Lake Livingston.

Allan B. Polunsky Unit

Allan B. Polunsky Unit (TL, formerly the Terrell Unit) is a prison in West Livingston, unincorporated Polk County, Texas, located approximately 5 miles southwest of Livingston along Farm to Market Road 350. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice operates the facility. The unit houses the State of Texas death row, and it has a maximum capacity of 2,900. Livingston Municipal Airport is located on the other side of FM 350. The unit, along the Big Thicket, is 60 miles east of Huntsville.

Lake Livingston

Lake Livingston is a reservoir located in the East Texas Piney Woods. Lake Livingston was built, and is owned and operated, by the Trinity River Authority of Texas (TRA) under contract with the City of Houston for water supply purposes. The lake is one of the largest lakes constructed for water supply purposes located totally within the State of Texas. Only the Sam Rayburn Reservoir is larger.
