1931 Valentine earthquake
The 1931 Valentine earthquake occurred on August 16 in the town of Valentine, Texas and was rated at VIII (Destructive) on the Mercalli intensity scale. With a Richter magnitude of 5.8, it remains the most powerful earthquake historically recorded in the state of Texas. Though no casualties were reported, the rupture caused damage to many homes and buildings in the epicentral region.
