Founded in 1999 as a branch of Tarleton State University, it became an independent member of the Texas A&M University System in September 2009. Harker Heights, Texas
Harker Heights is a city in Bell County, Texas, United States. As of the census[1 1] of 2010, there were 26,700 people, 9,488 households, and 7,139 families residing in the city, up from a population of 17,308 at the 2000 census. This makes Harker Heights the 3rd largest city in Bell County, after Killeen and Temple. Incorporated in 1960, the city name is derived from the name of one of the two original landowners and founder, Harley Kern.
