Franklin Vermont Senate District, 2002–2012

The Franklin Senate District is one of 13 Vermont Senate districts included in the redistricting and reapportionment plan developed by the Vermont General Assembly following the 2000 U.S. Census. The plan applies to legislatures elected in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. A new plan will be developed in 2012 following the 2010 U.S. Census. The Franklin District includes all of Franklin County, as well as the Grand Isle County town of Alburgh.

Franklin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Vermont. It is part of the Burlington-South Burlington, VT Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2010, the population was 47,746. Its shire town is the City of St. Albans. It borders the Canadian province of Quebec.

Morses Line Border Crossing

The Morses Line Border Crossing connects the towns of Saint-Armand, Quebec with Franklin, Vermont. In 1871, a proprieter named J. Morse opened a store at this location directly on the US-Canada boundary. A small village grew around it on both sides of the border. In 1935, the US built a border inspection station at Morses Line, and Canada built their border station in 1952. Both buildings are still in use today.
