Ivanhoe, Virginia

Ivanhoe is a census-designated place (CDP) in southern Wythe County, Virginia, United States, that straddles the border of Wythe County and Carroll County. The population as of the 2010 Census was 551. New River Trail State Park passes through Ivanhoe. It was the birthplace of Robert Sayers Sheffey, eccentric Methodist circuit rider and evangelist. Ivanhoe is situated in the Appalachian Mountains along New River.

Fries, Virginia

Fries (pronounced "freeze") is a town in Grayson County, Virginia, United States. The population was 484 as of the 200\\10 census. Fries is part of the Blue Ridge area, and shares in that region's old-time musical traditions. The small town is home to the Festival by the New River, held in September at the town park on the banks of the New River, and the Old-Time Fiddlers' and Bluegrass Convention in August, hosted by the local volunteer fire department.

Woodlawn, Virginia

Woodlawn is a census-designated place (CDP) in Carroll County, Virginia, United States. The population was 2,249 at the 2000 census. Woodlawn is musically notable as the home of Heritage Shoppe and Heritage Records, a store and record label owned by Bobby Patterson, a musician from a regionally important family of performers. Heritage Records specializes in local musicians, and also releases recordings from the Old Fiddlers' Convention in Galax, Virginia.

Fort Chiswell, Virginia

Fort Chiswell is a census-designated place (CDP) in Wythe County, Virginia, United States. The population was 911 at the 2000 census. Fort Chiswell is unincorporated, but gains its importance from being used as a control city for Interstate 77 throughout North Carolina. Fort Chiswell is located at the junction of Interstate 77 and Interstate 81. Going west from Fort Chiswell, drivers find themselves on a double wrong-way concurrency - one of few in the nation.
