Big Walker Lookout is a 100-foot observation tower located in the Blue Ridge Highlands Region at the top of Big Walker Mountain in Wythe County, Virginia on US Route 52 about 12 miles from Wytheville. The tower is accessible from Interstate 77 in Bland County and Interstate 81 in Wythe County. Big Walker Mountain Tunnel

The Big Walker Mountain Tunnel is a vehicular tunnel in the Appalachian Mountains of Southwest Virginia that carries Interstate 77 through/under Big Walker Mountain. It is located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:37|2.316|N|81|7.818|W|region:US_type:landmark_scale:300000|| |primary |name= }}, a few miles south of the town of Bland and a segment of the Appalachian Trail, and about 20 miles (32 km) south of its longer cousin, the East River Mountain Tunnel.

Battle of Cove Mountain

The Battle of Cove Mountain was a minor skirmish of the American Civil War, fought on May 10, 1864, in the southwest corner of Virginia near Cove Mountain in Wythe County. On that day, Union Brig. Gen. William W. Averell's brigade encountered a Confederate brigade under the command of Brig. Gen. William E. "Grumble" Jones. Averell attacked the Confederate positions but was repulsed. The Confederates received reinforcements from Brig. Gen.
