Cherry Point Refinery

The Cherry Point Refinery is the largest oil refinery in Washington. It is located about 7 mi south of Blaine and 8 mi miles northwest of Ferndale, a few miles south of the Canadian border, on the Strait of Georgia between Birch Bay and Lummi Bay. It is the fourth largest refinery on the West Coast and 28th largest in the U.S. The plant was constructed in 1971 with an original capacity of about 100,000 barrels .

Meridian High School (Washington)

Meridian High School is a public secondary school located in the little North-Whatcom community Laurel, Washington (north of Bellingham). During the 2010-2011 school year, official enrollment was documented at 467 students in grades 9-12. It is currently the only high school in the Meridian School District. The school's Principal since spring 2011 has been James Everett. He succeeded seven-year veteran principal David Shockley, who left to join the district office.

Northwest Indian College

Northwest Indian College, operated by the Lummi tribe of Black Native Americans as a tribally controlled institution of higher education, is located in Bellingham, Washington. Its President is Cheryl Crazy Bull, a member of the Sicangu Lakota from the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. Although the NIC campus is located within the Lummi Nation in Washington State, the College is the only accredited Tribal College or University serving reservation communities of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.
