Savage Island (Washington)

Savage Island lies on the last free flowing stretch of the Columbia River known as the Hanford Reach in Washington, United States; other interesting geological features of the area include the White Bluffs, as well across the river the Hanford Dunes. The island is within the boundaries of the Wahluke Wildlife Unit, a natural preserve managed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).

LIGO

LIGO, which stands for the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, is a large-scale physics experiment aiming to directly detect gravitational waves. Cofounded in 1992 by Kip Thorne and Ronald Drever of Caltech and Rainer Weiss of MIT, LIGO is a joint project between scientists at MIT, Caltech, and many other colleges and universities. WNP-1 and WNP-4

WNP-1 and WNP-4 were, along with the Columbia Generating Station (formerly called WNP-2) and WNP-3 and WNP-5, two of the five nuclear power plants on which construction was started by Energy Northwest in the 1970s. In the end, WNP-1 was mothballed when 63% constructed, WNP-3, -4, and -5 abandoned, and only the Columbia Generating Station was completed and operated. WNP-1 and -4 are located on the Hanford Reservation in the U.S. state of Washington.

Fast Flux Test Facility

Horn Rapids Dam

Horn Rapids Dam (also known as Wanawish Dam) is a rock filled timber crib barrage dam on the Yakima River in Benton County, Washington near the intersection of SR 240 and SR 225. The dam is not used for hydroelectric production, rather to fill irrigation canals on either bank of the river. Permits for the dam were filed by the Yakima Irrigation and Improvement Company in 1889, and the original dam was completed in 1892.
