It covers 3,522 acres, has 50,000 feet of freshwater shoreline, and is open year-round for camping and day use. During the winter, it is possible to do cross-country skiing as well. The park takes its name from Steamboat Rock, a basalt butte found in the lake.

Situated near the Omak Lake at a distance of 1,340 feet, it weighs approximately 40 tons, and its composition is granite. It is also based around an earthquake numbered M-7 plus that occurred in 1872; M-7 refers to a strong earthquake.
